Our Club

Everyone's welcome!

In the summer of 2021 Rudi Botha and some friends were playing cricket on the Squamish elementary field. Taurean McCarthy who lived nearby joined them and they discussed the lack of cricket opportunities in Squamish.Taurean called Ben Cole a fellow community organiser and the three of them got together and founded the club in late 2021. The Squamish Cricket Club (SCC) was born. With no funding, it was an uphill battle and for a town that had never seen Cricket played at club level, it was surprising to many.By early 2022 the club had a website, team app and players signed up. It seemed that Squamish Cricket was here to stay.Training started in April 2022 and the club was lucky enough to gain some attention in a few local and provincial news outlets. Through hard work and a lot of community support and funding, the club came to life.In May 2022, the SCC became a sustaining member of Cricket BC. Local entrepreneur and cricketer Channi Sodhi joined the leadership team as the fourth director.Membership grew and the club played its inaugural away game against West Vancouver. Amazingly the SCC came away with a win. The club has played several games throughout their first season and finished with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. It was a great season with some teams even coming up to Squamish to play. It was time to start funding for our very own pitch.2023 has brought new challenges and the club is working hard to get its own pitch to secure full membership in the BCMCL. The club looks forward to being a full member of the league and hosting teams in Squamish.
